We know dementia care is expensive, but this new research tool can estimate the cost for a lifetime. And the average cost, stretched out over five years? $321,780. Medicare records and Alzheimer’s data was compiled to create this model, which factors in the value of informal care. Who’s paying the bills? Research showed families are covering 70 percent of the financial burden, with Medicaid and Medicare picking up the rest.

The GCBH came to the consensus that stimulating your brain through various intellectual activities (e.g. practicing yoga, taking a class, volunteering, etc.) provides benefits for adults’ brain health and can impact how well your brain functions.
