Davidson County NC Dementia Summit
Splaine Consulting moderated and presented at the ‘Responding to Home Alone with Dementia Summit’. Mike Splaine presented: At Home Alone in Davidson County which outlined facts and figures of people with dementia who live in a single-person household. Kate Gordon presented on Care Mapping and on Strategies for Identifying and Meeting the Needs of Individuals with Dementia Who Live Alone. We had a great time at the summit. We appreciate everyone who attended and participated in engaging discussion!
Nevada Tribal Summit

Mike Splaine, Principal of Splaine Consulting, spoke about the options for public health action at the Nevada Tribal Summit on Age and Dementia Friendly Care hosted by the Pyramid Lake Paiute on their lands with leadership from Carla Eben and the Dementia Engagement Education and Research Program at UNR.
HBI Roadmap Champions Program
The Alzheimer’s Association, in partnership with the American Indian Public Health Resource Center at NDSU, has launched the inaugural HBI Road Map Champions Program. The program is made of a cohort of 15 public health professionals that will help implement public health strategies for addressing brain health, caregiving and dementia from the HBI: Road Map for American Indian and Alaska Native Peoples. Champions will assess local needs, share knowledge, and promote community strengths—honoring Indigenous perspectives and social determinants of health. Splaine Consulting is proud to support this vital initiative, continuing over a decade of involvement with the Healthy Brain Initiative. Learn more.

World Elder Abuse Awareness Day
June 15th is WEAAD (World Elder Abuse Awareness Day). WEAAD was launched by the International Network for the Prevention of Elder Abuse and the World Health Organization at the United Nations. The purpose of WEAAD is to provide an opportunity for communities around the world to promote a better understanding of abuse and neglect of older persons by raising awareness of the cultural, social, economic and demographic processes affecting elder abuse and neglect. Thoughtful Hospitalization Webinar
Join Splaine Consulting’s Principal Mike Splaine for the Thoughtful Hospitalization webinar! This free online webinar is for families and caregivers of people with dementia. The workshop offers the essential tools to avoid unnecessary hospitalization, prepare for hospitalization, navigate hospitalization, transition home safely, and set up for the best possible recovery at home.
Hospitalization can be very difficult for people with dementia. They often experience higher risk for falls, dehydration, malnutrition, untreated pain, medication-related problems, and physical restraints. A hospital stay doesn’t have to be this way! Build your knowledge and confidence to navigate a hospital stay safely with your loved one.

Living Alone and Connected was created by Splaine Consulting’s Mike Splaine and Kate Gordon. Mike Splaine and Kate Gordon are well known policy analysts and teachers of grassroots advocacy technique who have built strong, nationwide communities of work and continuous learning. Mike and Kate have done extensive work finding supports for people who live alone with dementia so that they can live independently and safely.

Support PLAWD (People Living Alone with Dementia) is a Facebook community for friends and allies of people living alone with dementia. Here you’ll find ideas and inspiration to best support PLAWD including resources on: home safety, food access, preventing and preparing for hospitalization, financial management, and much more! Alzheimer’s Facts & Figures Released
The 2025 Alzheimer’s Disease Facts and Figures report shows the need for care, support and research for over 7 million Americans living with Alzheimer’s.
Findings revealed include:
- Americans want to know early if they have Alzheimer’s and access to testing.
- More than 9 in 10 Americans (92%) would probably or definitely want to take a medication that could slow the progression of Alzheimer’s following diagnosis.
- Americans’ top concerns about Alzheimer’s testing are insurance coverage, accuracy and cost.
- Four in 5 Americans (81%) believe new treatments to stop the progression of Alzheimer’s will emerge in the next decade.
